“Comfort, good food and exceptional personable service is a winning combination in a quiet Harare suburb where Ballantynes Lodge continues to blossom amidst its beautiful surroundings.”
– Darren Lapp
When you walk into Ballantynes Lodge, Harare, Zimbabwe, we hope you get a sense serenity and comfort. We’ve created a space to retreat, think and breathe, as an unobtrusive extension to our home. We pride ourselves on offering world-class hospitality and warmth, which we hope will impress you long before the garden views, bird life and sparkling blue infinity pool.
My husband Dean Harrison and I officially established Ballantynes Lodge in 2011. Initially named House Harrison, Ballantynes was one of the first bespoke guest houses to be established in Harare and remains one of the city’s most successful, loved by both the local community and international guests.
We realised that there was a market for luxury hospitality and were lucky enough to have acquired our property where there were two existing townhouses. With the help of our very talented architect, we converted them into our beautiful lodge. Renovations started small, first with two rooms which later developed into five. Fast forward five years and we now proudly offer fourteen double luxury rooms, each fitted with an en-suite bathroom.
I attribute much of the success of Ballantynes Lodge to my parent’s family business, where I learnt the tricks of the trade and the importance of the small details which make people feel special.
I understand personal touch, comfort and food – all elements which are crucial to making a guest enjoy every minute of their stay.
Having an inherent flare for design and interiors, I’ve defined every detail of each carefully decorated room at Ballantynes Loge, creating a positive and peaceful environment. It’s extremely important to us that at the end of a long day our guests return to a clean, comfortable and calming space, a delicious home cooked meal in the evening and can start their busy day with a hearty, healthy breakfast.
Many of our unique services and amenities have been designed to cater for the needs business travellers, who form a large majority of Ballantynes’ guests and enjoy special rates for long term stays. Some of the facilities and services which business travellers specifically utilise include: unlimited Wi-Fi throughout the property, unlimited tea and coffee and laundry and ironing. The lodge’s common lounge area is an ideal space for working, meetings and small conferences. The dining room offers a three course dinner, which is perfect for entertaining clients or long term guests that prefer to eat in.
We believe it is the unwavering homeliness and warmth that has kept guests returning over the years. ‘Arrive as a guest, leave as a friend’, is not only Ballantynes’ motto, but a mantra we hum each and every day. Our guests become our friends and we have taught our staff to learn and remember every person’s name. We want our guests to know that they are important to us and always feel that they are ‘returning home’.
